Technical Weight Management

Manufacturers of complex products are under pressure to meet high requirements as far as the control their products’ weight is concerned. Within the framework of product lifecycle managements it is becoming increasingly important to monitor and control all weight–related product data and if applicable to make the necessary adjustments, starting at the early phase of production right up to the completion of the development process.

Building on their existing PLM-system, usb’s weight management offers significant functionality for the monitoring and controlling of weight during the entire development and design process right up to the maturity phase of the product.

 


Technical information

M³ is a web based application implemented with modern Java technologies. The user interface is designed especially for the requirements of weight managers. Standardized interfaced are used for export and import of data of CAD, PLM or other company applications. Considering this capabilities M³ can be used as an integration platform for a mass relevant data.

Manged by a role based access control system all concerned people in a company are able to acess valid data (single source of truth). For data storage an ORACLE database is used.

Main characteristics of the weight management module M³

  • Control of Mass, Center of Gravity (CG) and Moments of Inertia (MOI)
  • Completing the data of existing products with weight information according to the original character (estimated, calculated, weighed).
  • In the entire structure actual mass can be collected, calculated and analysed according to its quality.
  • Aggregation of mass properties with different algorithms - e.g. according to product structure or SAWE recommeded practice
  • Storage of different values for CG and MOI for Take Off and Flight conditions in aerospace industries.
  • Import of product structure and item information from PLM
  • Transition of mass properties data and calculations from CAD systems
  • Change-specific simulation of weight development without changing the constructive actual condition.
  • Display and administration of aims for neutral product structures such as the so-called weight-reference vehicle in the field of automotive engineering.
  • Simple navigation between target mass and actual mass in the structure tree display.
  • Analysis and control of target and actual mass in the form of tables and diagrams.
  • Evaluation of time-referenced product weight.
  • Optional 3D visualization and simulation of mass distribution and CG for edisplay and control
